Scales

This is because Fahrenheit is based on a brine scale and the human body. The scale is basically how cold does it have to be to freeze saltwater (zero Fahrenheit) to what temperature is the human body (100-ish Fahrenheit, although now we know that’s not exactly accurate). Fahrenheit was designed around humans.Celsius and Kelvin are designed around the natural world.Celsius is a scale based on water. Zero is when water freezes, 100 is when water boils.Kelvin uses the same scale as Celsius (one degree, as a unit, is the same between the two), but defines zero as absolute zero, which is basically the temperature at which atoms literally stop doing that spinning thing. Nothing can exist below zero Kelvin. It’s the bottom of the scale.So.Fahrenheit: what temperatures affect humansCelsius: what temperatures affect waterKelvin: what temperatures affect atoms

Why didn’t my science teachers ever see fit to toss off this little fact?

Celsius is a scale based on water. Zero is when water freezes, 100 is when water boils.

Kelvin uses the same scale as Celsius (one degree, as a unit, is the same between the two), but defines zero as absolute zero, which is basically the temperature at which atoms literally stop doing that spinning thing. Nothing can exist below zero Kelvin. It’s the bottom of the scale.

So.
Fahrenheit: what temperatures affect humans
Celsius: what temperatures affect water
Kelvin: what temperatures affect atoms

Why didn’t my science teachers ever see fit to toss off this little fact?

This is actually hilariously great news, because in Romans, the impostor, Paul, was the one who said that Homosexuality was an “abomination”.

No wonder they’ve been hiding it since 2000.

YASSSSSSS!

This woman was born before women were legally allowed to vote.

So don’t think for a second that she’s joking when she sees you trying to take that right away, Republicans.

SHARKS and TROPHIC CASCADES

What Happens When Sharks Disappear?
Infographics by Lily Williams

Even worse: Humboldt squid will overpopulate. And they learn what to eat through trial and error. They are even known to attack and seriously harm divers. [x]

Protect your Ocean.

sharks are fucking important

I’ll take sharks over squids thanks

Interesting.

Can I just add

Millions of sharks are captured for their fins in China because most Chinese believe shark fins are somewhat magical and will heal all diseases and bring good luck, therefore forging a tradition for shark fin soup to be present at weddings and dinners. The worse part about all this is that the fishermen don’t kill the sharks; they bring them onto the boat/ship and CUT OFF THEIR FINS BEFORE THROWING THEM BACK INTO THE OCEAN ALIVE, leaving the shark in pain and vain before their death. The blood of the dying shark would attract other sharks and the process is repeated.

Illegal shark hunting also happens in certain waters of the China sea, proving the laws that forbid illegal shark hunting to be completely useless. Despite the many warnings from local green associations and scientists, many sharks are still being slaughtered for their fins.

In some Chinese cities, however, the tradition of having shark fin soup at certain events is not a popular tradition anymore, especially with formerly colonized cities such as Macau and Hong Kong. Newlyweds insist to not include shark fin soup as part of their wedding feasts. Sadly, sharks are still largely hunted no matter what the trend or the environmentalists say. So please please please, if you love sharks and you care about the world you live in, stop giving people the opportunity to kill these animals. They are essential to our ecosystem and without them, many things would go out of balance, further effecting and worsening the world we live in.

Stand against shark hunting! Love the sharks!

EVERY TIME SOMEONE BRINGS UP THE LIBRARY OF ALEXANDRIA I GET SO ANGRY.

but why

Because it got burned. All of that knowledge, lost forever.

The library was destroyed over 1000’s of years ago. The library consisted of thousands of scrolls and books about mathematics, engineering, physiology, geography, blueprints, medicine, plays, & important scriptures. Thinkers from all over the Mediterranean used to come to Alexandria to study. Most of the major work of civilization up until that point was lost. If the library still survived till this day, society may have been more advanced and we would sure know more about the ancient world.
